Cold Weather Fruit Compote

  • 6 tart cooking apples
  • golden raisins
  • regular raisins
  • slivered almonds
  • dried turkish apricots
  • plenty of butter
  • some honey
  • a little cinnamon
  • fresh lemon juice

Peel and slice apples as you would for a pie. Toss them with lemon juice. Meanwhile, melt enough butter to look like too much in a big black skillet. Throw in the apples and get them going. Add the raisins until proportional. Add the almonds next and the aprictos last. Sprinkle cinnamon over the whole thing and pour two tablespoons (or enough to suit your taste) over the whole thing. Cook until the apples have sort of softened, but are still springy. Serve warm. Yum.

Jessie invented this recipe for her 19th birthday dinner.
