Chocolate Mug Cake

NOM NOM NOM. You now have no excuse not to have your cake and eat it too.


  • 1 coffee mug
  • 4 tablespoons plain flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • tiny splash of vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons oil


Mix dry ingredients in the coffee mug. Add the egg and combine well. Splash in the vanilla now-ish, too. Add the milk and oil and mix well. Microwave for 3 minutes at 1000 watts, or 4 minutes at 800 watts.

Tip out onto a plate and enjoy.


I use rye flour because I don't do wheat, and it works nicely. I have a friend who regularly makes it with gluten free flour and she says it works great. The cake mushrooms out the top of the cup madly, and once cooked subsides back into the cup. This is normal - don't freak out, just enjoy watching it. Tonight I used dairy free margarine instead of oil and it was nicer, so feel free to experiment. Next time I might try butter. I have heard good reports of a few tablespoons of chocolate chips add to the mix, so that's another variation on my to-do list. -- catdraco's livejournal
